   Pimientos de Padron [18/05 02:27PM]

Pimientos de Padron

We ar both hooked on these. So much so we have started to grow them at home on our kitchen window ledge (you cant seem to buy them in UK) You can buy them in any supermarket in Spain and they are lovely.

Pimento is Spanish for pepper and Pimentos de Padron are peppers from Padron, which is in the North of Spain. They are small green peppers that look a bit like chillies.

To cook the Pimentos de Padron we fry them in a small amount of oil under they start to crisp a little and then we add sea salt.

You can buy them like this in bars all over Spain as a tapas.  You simple bite the pepper away from the stalk and take a gamble to see if its a hot one. Most of the peppers are mild but the twist with Pimentos de Padron is the odd one can be very very spicy. You know if the Pimentos are really Pimentos de Padron if at least one or two, maybe more, in a packet gives a slight kick.

This is how they look in the supermarket bag.

But as you cant get them in the UK (we smuggled these back last week..well Royston did) I grow them in the garden. You can buy seeds online.

You have to bring them on indoors but then they are fine outside during the summer and give loads of little Pimientos!!

This is Royston cooking them last night.

Click below to watch Royston cook the pimentos (he didnt know i was doing it...sorry hun..)
